In one month in 1933, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the New Deal created 4 million new jobs through the Civil Works Administration. Millions more found work through other New Deal programs such as the Works Progress Administration, Tennessee Valley Authority, and the Public Works Administration. The government drastically reduced the worst impacts of the Great Depression while simultaneously building or repairing hundreds of millions of miles of roads and bridges, expanding public infrastructure such as schools and utilities, and spreading culture through the only federally funded artwork program in United States history.
